Ceiling fans are a great way to help with both your home heating and cooling and an attractive way to add comfort and light to your home. However ceiling fan direction is very important.

During the summer the fan should run in a forward or counter clockwise direction to help with cooling by blowing air in a downward direction and causing a cooling breeze.
According to Casablanca Fan Company when you are using a ceiling fan you can then “raise the thermostat setting, resulting in reduced air conditioning energy consumption of 40% or more” while still keeping your room cool.

During the winter the fan direction should run in a reverse or clockwise direction at a low speed to help with heating.
